Provisional Admission Policy For Admission To 1st Year Classes
Academic Session – 2014-2015.
Students are advised to go through the notification mentioned below before purchase of admission form. Option for honours and general courses are their responsibility.
- A candidate may be admitted to the first year of three-year B.A/B.Sc./ B.Com.(Honours/General) Course of studies of passing H.S.(10+2) Examination in General or Vocational Stream conducted by West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent examination conducted by other State Board/Council or Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya or National Open School recognized by the Distant Learning Council subject to the fulfillment of the Conditions mentioned below:
In case of other Board/Council, a candidate shall have to pass in four recognised subjects of full marks not being less than 100 each, of which, one shall be English.
Marks obtained in top four subjects shall be considered to ascertain the aggregate marks of a candidate passing the examination under grade system. Also for candidates passing the H.S. (10+2) Examination from the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education under old system, marks obtained in top four subjects shall be considered to determine the aggregate marks. Marks obtained in Environmental Studies as a compulsory subject at the H.S.(10+2) Examination conducted by the West Bengal Council of H.S. Education or its equivalent shall not be taken into account for calculating the aggregate marks in top four subjects for the purpose of admission at the degree course of studies under this University. However, the subject “Environmental Science” studied as an elective subject of 100 marks may be taken into account for calculating the aggregate marks.
Students of the (10+2) level passing out from the All India Boards/ Councils(i.e. C.B.S.E., I. S.C. and National Institute of Open Schooling) need not require to submit the Migration Certificate for getting registration under this University.
Original Mark-sheet should be produced at the time of obtaining the Admission Form. A copy of the original mark-sheet (H.S. or equivalent) should be enclosed during submission of admission form. - No candidate shall be allowed for admission after a lapse of more than 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognized regular courses of study after passing the previous qualifying examination.
Explanation: The year of admission will not be taken into account while calculating 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination. - Reserved seats: Scheduled Caste- 22%, Scheduled Tribe- 6%, and OBC - 17% (OBC A - 10%, OBC B – 7%). Physically Handicapped Candidates will enjoy a 3% reservation in each of the reserved categories and in the unreserved or general category. However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribe community taking up Honours Course of study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate and 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examinations, as the case may be. Any dispute regarding eligibility criteria would be resolved by the equivalence Committee set up by the West Bengal State University.
A candidate taking up Honours Course in Accounting & Finance and Marketing must obtain
- A minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 45% in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
OR - 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
OR - 50% marks in aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his/her previous qualifying examination, provided all other clauses are satisfied.
A Candidate shall be allowed to take up B. Com. Hons. Course under heading ‘A’, if, he / she had passed the subjects under heading ‘B’, at the previous qualifying examination.

A Candidate taking up Honours Course in B. Sc. Stream (Geography) must obtain :
- A minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 60% in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination
OR - 70% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
OR - 60% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his / her previous qualifying examination, provided all other clauses are satisfied.
A candidate taking up Honours course in B. A. Stream (Bengali, English, Education, History, Journalism and Mass Communication) must obtain:
- A minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 45% (only in case of Journalism & Mass Communication 50%) in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
OR - 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
OR - 50% marks in aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his / her previous qualifying examination, provided all other clauses are satisfied.

- » The percentage of marks shall be calculated on the basis of Marks obtained in “Best of Four subjects” (Excluding Environmental Studies) and Marks obtained in the subject/ related subject in which admission to Honours Course is sought.
- » Candidates who have passed in the previous qualifying examination are eligible to seek admission in the B. A., B. Sc., B. Com. General Stream.
- » Application for admission must be made in prescribed form. Completed application forms alongwith attested copies of documents, mentioned in the form, are to be submitted within the notified date and time. The Originals must be produced at the time of admission. Admission will take place in order of merit both in the General & in the Hons. Courses and strictly in accordance with the norms prescribed by the University as well as by the Academic Sub Committee of the College.
- » For the B.A. (Honours and General) course of studies, a candidate is required to choose his / her Hons. and two / three elective subjects as the case may be as given in the prospectus.
